Seeing the need for a customer-focused electrical distributor, David L. Spear and his wife started EDI from the garage of their home in 1954. Spear worked tirelessly to develop a customer base, traveling from the foothills of the North Carolina mountains eastward to the sand hills.

Along the way, Spear built EDI’s reputation as a company that customers could depend on. In 1956, EDI moved out of Mr. Spear’s garage and into its first building on Charlotte’s East Trade Street. Mr. Spear grew the business through his commitment to servicing his customers’ needs.
